How To Properly Use A Wood Chipper

In this video, learn how to properly operate a wood chipper.

Safety is very important when using a wood chipper.  Removing dead tree branches and pruning shrubbery can create tons of debris.  Chippers are light duty equipment and need to be operated using caution.  Here are some tips on how to operate it the proper way.

  • Before operating, make sure to read and understand the operating instructions.
  • Wear safety glasses to protect yourself from flying debris.
  • Make sure your wood chipper is on level ground before operating.
  • Ensure all nuts and bolts are tightened.
  • Never operate the machine on sloped ground.
  • Position the machine so that the wind will blow the dust produced away from the engine.
  • Sort through the materials beforehand to avoid any foreign objects.
  • Keep your chipper's knives sharp.  It's a good idea to have them sharpened to get the proper angle.
