The underside of a riding lawn mower deck needs to be kept clean to prevent grass clipping build up on the inside of your mower. Stuck clippings interfere with the airflow necessary for projects, like mulching, eventually leading to a rusted deck.  A John Deere riding mower with a deck washing port allows you to clean the deck's underside quickly and easily so you’re ready for your next mow.

First, you’ll need to park your tractor in a level area near a water spigot. Turn on your parking break and shut your engine off.  Add the wash port adapter to the end of your hose and lower your mower deck to create a seal between the ground and your mower deck. Turn on the water and then turn back on your engine.  Place the throttle into the fast position (moving from the turtle to rabbit icon). Turn your clutch on and allow the water to run through the deck for about a minute. After your minute is up, turn the clutch, engine and water off.  Remove the hose from the deck and put your hose away. Raise back up your mower deck and move your mower to a dry location. You must wait for your mower deck to dry completely before you can use it again.
